The Allen Circuit Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (OVWI) Court is Indiana’s first certified OVWI focused problem-solving court. A provisional certification was issued on July 22, 2020 by the Indiana Supreme Court’s Office of Judicial Administration. The OVWI Court began operating on August 1, 2020 is focused on those charged with drunk driving as a Level 6 felony. Participants entering the OVWI Court are supervised by Allen County Adult Probation who partners with other local community supervision agencies including, but not limited to, the Recovery Center of AADP, Allen County Community Corrections, and Park Center, Inc. In April, 2024, the Indiana Office of Court Services issued a certificate of approval authorizing the Allen Circuit Court OVWI Court to continue the delivery of services as a certified Problem-Solving Court.
The Allen Circuit OVWI Court deploys a host of evidence-based supervision strategies including medication-assisted treatment, substance-use disorder treatment, safe and sober housing, and cognitive-behavioral therapy programs. All designed to positively impact high recidivism rates normally associated with this population. The collaborative efforts with our community partners make Allen County a safer and more viable community.
