ERIC ZIMMERMAN is the Chief Probation Officer for the Allen County Adult Probation Department and a member of the Court’s Executive Team. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Affairs from Indiana University-Bloomington in 1986. He began his career as a probation officer in 1986 for the Allen County Adult Probation Department by writing Presentence Investigations. He then supervised felony probation offenders before being appointed the Assistant Chief Probation Officer. In 1993, he was appointed the Chief Adult Probation Officer. From 2011 to 2021, he served as the Director of Court Services for the Allen Circuit Court while retaining his position as the Chief Probation Officer.
He currently serves on the Allen County Community Corrections Advisory Board and is an adjunct faculty member at Indiana Tech where he teaches criminal justice and public management. He has held board positions on the Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana including the Presidency for six (6) years and currently serves as the Immediate Past President. Mr. Zimmerman was awarded the "Order of Augustus" by the Judicial Conference of Indiana in 2006 for his overall professional commitment to the field of probation. He also was awarded the "Founders Award" by the Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana for his significant contributions to the field of probation. He is very active in promoting probation officer safety and created the Indiana Probation Officer Field Academy.
